Book of the Month: More than a Body
This is an incredibly powerful book that encourages women to challenge the way they have been taught to view their bodies. Our society tends to teach girls from a young age that their body’s worth depends on its appearance and that the way you look is one of the most important things about you. We are taught that there is a certain ‘right’ way to look (often based on heavily edited and unrealistic images seen in the media) and there are an enormous number of companies looking to sell us all sorts of products to help us try to look more like this unattainable standard.
In “More than a Body” the authors challenge us to shift our focus from how our bodies look, to what they are capable of doing and to recognize the role of the media’s beauty standard in the way we view our bodies. It encourages readers to spend less time viewing their body and more time being full present within their body. It’s about building body image resilience, embracing self-compassion, and reclaiming your inherent worth beyond physical appearance. I hope you enjoy this read as much as I did!
